Towing & recovery

Tow truck insurance for the vehicle on the hook and the one in your yard.

Towing has two exposures a freight policy never sees — the customer's vehicle while you tow it, and the customer's vehicle while you store it. We write both, plus the truck.

Designed for

Light-duty, heavy-duty, roadside, rotation, and repo tow operators

Coverage for other people's vehicles

A tow operator is liable for other people's vehicles: on the hook, on the bed, and on the lot. On-hook towing coverage pays for the vehicle in tow; garagekeepers pays for vehicles stored at your yard. Neither is part of ordinary trucking insurance, and motor clubs, police rotation lists, and repo clients each have their own certificate requirements.

We work with markets that write towing and recovery — light-duty rollbacks, heavy wreckers, roadside assistance, and repossession — and we build the policy around the contracts you hold.

Common questions

What is on-hook coverage?

Coverage for damage to a customer's vehicle while you are towing or carrying it. It is separate from physical damage on your own truck and from liability, and most tow contracts require a specific on-hook limit.

Do I need garagekeepers if I store vehicles overnight?

Yes, if you want the vehicles in your yard covered for fire, theft, vandalism, or collision while stored. Garagekeepers is the coverage for that, and rotation and repo contracts usually require it.

Can you insure a new towing business?

Yes. New tow operations have fewer markets, and the contracts you plan to hold, your yard, and your driving record decide the options. Rates usually improve after the first clean year.

Does repo work change the policy?

It does. Repossession carries its own liability exposures and some carriers exclude it. Tell us before you take repo assignments so the policy is written to include it.

Tell us the trucks, the kinds of towing you do, and the contracts you hold. We quote on-hook and garagekeepers alongside the truck.

A quote request does not bind coverage. Availability, limits, exclusions, and effective dates are subject to carrier approval and policy terms.
